It was a fine morning as 19 of us gathered for our walk to the site of Roughcastle Roman Fort. We welcomed Susan and Ashleigh Jane from the Alloa area with us for the first time. We also welcomed back David and Arlene who haven’t been walking for a while. Good to see you looking so well David.
We set off along the canal hoping to miss all the cyclists. Only one boat on the canal. In no time we arrived at Bonnybridge where we had our tea break at the Heritage Park. The information boards there told us the history of Bonnybridge.
After going through the Radical Pend we had a bit of pavement walking uphill. By the time we reached Roughcastle we were rather hot and ready for our lunch. Again we read the information plaques this time about the Romans. We had a long lunch stop as we were all enjoying the company and the chat. Especially on the beautiful sunny day it turned out to be.
Then we were on the track leading to the Falkirk Wheel which was very busy. There was plenty of room both inside and outside and most of us stayed for refreshments. We were joined at the Wheel by Babs and Lynne who came along specially to see us!
Thanks all of you for coming. Thanks to Lorraine for being backmarker and to Chris for being photographer. To see all the photos, click on the following link: Forth & Clyde Canal, Rough Castle, Falkirk Wheelclick
