Bothkennar Pools and Kelpies

We had a dry sunny day for our walk to Bothkennar pools and around the Helix paths to the Kelpies. Once again the forecast was wrong. There were 22 of us and we welcomed Ella and David from Auchterarder on their first walk with us and Bruce, Wendy’s husband on his second walk. When we reached the hide at the pools we could see lots of activity on the water but we were a bit too far away to recognise any of the birds. We could see the nesting rafts for the terns which has been a great success and you will find a video of this online.  After the teabreak we made our way up along the River Carron and crossed Abbotshaugh Bridge. Through the trees we could see the old doo’cot which belonged to Carron House. We were now at the Love Kisses sculpture and the Sunclock. There was quite a debate about the time as the sun wasn’t shining brightly enough! Soon we were at the Kelpies and in a change to our usual routine we ended the walk by having our lunch. This worked out well even if we had to contend with a blustery wind. It was a varied walk, initially the peace and quiet around Bothkennar, to the Helix paths with other walkers, dogs and cyclists to the buzz at the Kelpies. Plenty room for everyone though!

Some of the paths were new to many of the group and some were visiting the Kelpies for the first time. I hope you all enjoyed the walk and the company and maybe we will see the visitors another time.
