Forth Valley Ramblers

Dollar to Pool of Muckart

  Walk Leader – Alastair

24 walkers including one visitor from Glenrothes ramblers left from the car park at Dollar Health Centre and headed off for Muckhart mill.Enroute a local farmer allowed us access to see a circular mill wheel. On arrival at Muckhart mill the history was explained and we saw the mill wheel which was one of the largest overshot wheels in Scotland. Up from the mill we passed kilns which produced lime for use at the Carron Iron works.

Coffee break eventually happened in the remains of an old children’s home!

We made our way up to the viewpoint to enjoy the view along the Ochils to Stirling. Lunch was eaten using the outdoor facilities at Muckhart Primary School. This school has an interesting history being used for evacuees during the Second World War.

Passing through Mr. Wilson’s farm, we enjoyed the company of lovely Shetland ponies.

We returned to Dollar via the old coach road and the sunken road.

The weather was good throughout and a pleasant 7 mile walk.
