Walk Leader - Allan

A fairly strenuous walk up in the Ochils high above Alva. Well worth the climb to see the views at the top.

Twelve of us got together on Sunday, including Janet, who was visiting from CK Ramblers.

Our adventure began at Ochil Woodland Park, where we climbed the rather challenging path to the Silver mines. We then joined another steep Land Rover track past Nebit and continued past Craighorn. We were so lucky with the weather; it was bright and even the sun peeked out, making the views at the top absolutely perfect. The rain held off until after our lunch.

That was the hard work out of the way. Now the fun bit begins. After turning left at Craighorn, we walked due west almost to the source of the Alva Burn. From here, we could spot many of the familiar Ochil tops, such as ‘Bengengie Hill’, ‘Ben Ever’, ‘Colsnaur Hill’ and ‘Ben Cleuch’. There’s plenty of scope from here for future walks in the Ochils.

After lunch on Hill ‘488’, we started our steady descent over ‘The Cloves’, (a rather strange word, meaning ‘Nails’ describing the features of the hill) all the way back to the cars.
