Brothie Burn

Walk Leader – Betty

It was a frosty sunny day for our first walk of 2026 at the Brothie Burn and Gartmorn Dam. There were 25 of us keen to start the New Year and get some miles in with this popular walk. We welcomed a new member, Ruth, on her first walk and Kathleen, John’s sister. There were 4 cancellations and I hope those of you who are ill or injured feel better soon. As usual there was plenty of chatter as we walked along and into the woods at the Brothie Burn. The view of the Ochils and the Dam as we came up on to the path was magnificent. Soon we were at the Sunken Garden for some celebratory Nozeco and shortbread served up with much hilarity by Sarah and Dylan. This included party hats which we wore on top of our woolly hats!! The photos show how stunning we all looked!

We  had to reluctantly leave the party and continue our walk round the dam. There were a lot of walkers, runners and dogs out making the most of the nice day. The Ochils as usual were looking great. Lunch stop was on the far side of the dam and then we were on the final stretch back to the cars. By this time the sun was getting low in the sky and the colours across the dam were amazing.

Most of us ended the day at the Sweet Spot in Sauchie. A bit of hilarity there too, depending on whether you got your scone or not!

Thank you all for coming out on this freezing day to walk. I think you all enjoyed your day. I certainly did. Your company was great. Thanks to Billy and Joe for being backmarkers and checking the numbers when I couldn’t. Thanks to everyone who took photographs. Special thanks to Sarah and Dylan for the party. You can come along anytime.
