The walk starts at the car park to the right of the access road across from the pub.
The first couple of miles are easy walking along the canal towpath. It then goes onto a track which gently climbs up to the site of Bar Hill Roman fort.
Descending carefully down the steep grassy path, for which walking poles are strongly recommended, the route then climbs up to the top of Castle Hill, the site of an iron age fort. From here the route drops down before continuing on to climb Croy Hill, which again has some short steep sections.
The path then drops down through woods before rejoining the canal towpath back to the marina.
