Join us for a fantastic high-altitude ridge walk taking in two major Perthshire Munros: Beinn Ghlas (1,103m) and Ben Lawers (1,214m), Scotland’s tenth-highest mountain.
Because our starting point at the NTS car park sits at an elevation of around 400m, we get a generous "head start" on the climbing. The walk begins by weaving through the beautifully enclosed National Nature Reserve, home to some of Britain's rarest arctic-alpine flora. Once clear of the reserve, we will take the main, steady path that zigzags directly up the ridge to the summit of Beinn Ghlas.
From there, the dramatic ridge line ahead opens up beautifully. We will drop down into the connecting col (bealach) before tackling the final, steeper, and rocky push to the towering summit of Ben Lawers. On a clear June day, the 360-degree views from the top across Loch Tay, the Trossachs, and the distant peaks of Glencoe are utterly breathtaking.
To make it a true circular loop and save our knees from climbing back over the first peak on the way back, we will return to the col and use the western bypass path that contours around the slopes of Beinn Ghlas to take us back to the main track.

Essential Gear
- Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots with excellent ankle support (essential for the rocky summit sections).
- Clothing: Full waterproof layers, a warm fleece, a hat, and gloves. High-altitude ridges can be incredibly windy and cold, even in June!
- Provisions: A substantial packed lunch, high-energy snacks, and plenty of water.
Travel & Parking Advice: This is an incredibly popular mountain location on summer weekends and the car park may be busy. Parking costs £4 (Pay & Display, or free for NTS members). The single-track access road and the car park fill up very early, so please aim to arrive well before our 09:00 departure time to secure a space and ensure a prompt start. Consider carpooling if possible!
