Weather was good, and we had a great turnout of 19 Ramblers for today’s wander.
This was a nice circular route starting at Lochore Meadows Country Park, Fife following the path along Loch Ore before heading up to reach the trig on Benarty Hill. We took a nice steady pace up through Harran Hill Wood, with a short tea break stop before taking the slower pace up the slightly steeper path up through Benarty Woods to the Seamark rock outcrop. (It takes it's name from when it was used as a marking point used by Sailors on the Firth as a visual line or point to guide their ships). We got great views over to the Queensferry Crossing.
We continued across the pleasant undulating plateau to the trig, and whilst getting our group photo taken, the drizzly rain just started. We then found a bit of shelter along the wall for our lunch stop. We were lucky that the drizzle only lasted about 10/15minutes.
From there we went slightly west along the grassy path to the corner of the crags to where a fort used to stand, and got some lovely views over to the Lomond Hills, and looking down onto Loch Leven. We then continued east back along the flat top path following the wall line and walking through the lovely purple heather to the gate at the end to pick up the gravelly route downhill through Egg Plantation, and retracing our steps back into Benarty Woods, Harran Hill Wood, and enjoying the lovely sunshine walking back along the Lochside to the Visitors Centre, where we finished off with the usual refreshments and cake, before returning home.
The walk was enjoyed by all. And it was nice to have Fiona from Perth Ramblers join us, and also Susan who came along for her first trial walk with the group.
